The Penguins at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium participate in voluntary painting enrichment sessions set up by the aquariums penguin team. Cardboard from used boxes are paint prepped in a variety of colours and laid out at the in-habitat painting station where the penguins come up and choose their favourite colours to walk through and transfer to unique footprints and tail patterns on each picture. The penguins will often choose multiple colours and paint pictures together with different footprints on each piece of art. The completed paintings are then covered in an acrylic gloss and released for sale to raise profits for native NZ penguins.
